The best books like Delilah Green Doesn’t Care
1. The Bright Falls Series by Ashley Herring Blake
If you haven’t read the rest of the Bright Falls Series by Ashley herring Blake then this is an excellent starting point. The Bright Falls Series consists of 3 books – Delilah Green Doesn’t Care, Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail and Iris Kelly Doesn’t date.
Each book in the series follows a different character in the friendship group and contains a heartwarming sapphic romance full of comedy, spice and nuanced characters.
Astrid Parker is an interior designer. And for Astrid, failure is unacceptable. When Pru Everwood asks her to be the designer for the Everwood Innâs renovation that will be broadcasted on a popular home improvement show, Innside America, Astrid knows this is the answer to everything that is wrong with her life. But Astrid never planned on Jordan Everwood.
Iris Kelly has a brand new career writing romance novels. And she’s now on her second book. But she’s out of ideas. Happy to ignore her problems, Iris goes to a bar and has a terrible one night stand with Stefania. To get inspiration she decides to audition for a local play. There, she bumps into Stevie who asks Iris to play along as her fake girlfriend.
The well-written characters have complex back stories and nuanced personalities. The series also balances romance and comedy with more complex themes. The depiction of anxiety in Iris Kelly Doesn’t Date is excellent. A must-read if you enjoyed Delilah Green Doesn’t Care.

2. Ivy Aberdeens Letter to the World by Ashley Herring Blake
This middle grade book is quite different to the Bright Falls series. Searching for books with spice or a romcom? Then this isn’t the book for you. But fans of Ashley Herring Blake’s writing style will love this emotional read.
This queer middle grade novel follows Ivy Aberdeen. Her house is destroyed by a hurricane. In the aftermath, someone steals her notebook full of secret drawings of her crush (A girl)
Oh, I wept buckets when I read this one. It made my heart swell, my eyes water. And at the end made me smile like a loon. Ashley Herring Blake is a literary genius. The writing is sublime. Vivid and beautiful.
The plot is paced well. And all the characters were well developed and nuanced. A heartwarming take on realizing you like girls. The character starts feeling distanced from friends who obsess over boys. And the panic about coming out. Both heart-breaking and heartwarming.
(Keep on the Ashley Herring Blake train with their other lgbtq middle grade books The Mighty Heart of Sunny St James and Hazel Bly and the Deep Blue Sea)

3. Written in the Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur
When I think of books like Delilah Green Doesn’t Care, Written in the Stars springs to mind. This cute Sapphic romcom has a lot in common with the Bright Falls trilogy. A hate to love romance, two different personalities and spice.
It follows Elle and Darcy. Elle is a free-spirited social media astrologer. She agrees to a disastrous first date with uptight actuary Darcy. After the terrible blind date, Darcy is determined to stop her brother from setting her up again. So she lies and starts a fake relationship with Elle.
Written in the Stars is a queer of Pride and Prejudice set in urban Seattle. A compelling and heartwarming read.
You feel the chemistry though the pages.
The characters were well developed and well written. The fake-dating trope also allows for lots of character development.
The imagery of the city is incorporated throughout. And it makes you want to visit the city.
I’m OBSESSED with enemies to lovers book. I have tons of recommendations for fans of enemies to lovers books. Likewise, many enemies to lovers books feature LGBTQ+ characters. Check out my article on LGBTQ+ Enemies to Lovers Books here.

4. Cleat Cute by Meryl Wilsner
I recently listened to the audiobook version of Cleat Cute. And I’m obsessed. If you’re a fan of Ashley Herring Blake, then you’ll love this cute, spicy Sapphic rom com. Cleat Cute is also ideal for sports fans as the plot revolves around female football (soccer in the U.S)
A dual POV following Grace Henderson and Phoebe Matthews. At just 26, Grace has been star of the US Women’s National Team for ten years.
Phoebe is a bold new upstart. And she’s star struck to be training alongside Grace. She’s also the class clown and a charismatic jokestar. The last thing either of them expect, is to become friends with benefits. But after one daring kiss, they’re both hooked.
As the World Cup approaches, and Grace works her way back from injury, the women decide to find a way they can play together instead of vying for the same position.
The chemistry between the two main characters in this book sizzles off the pages. And the differences in personalities makes for many funny moments. The well-written characters are relatable in different ways. The perfect book to read if you love the Bright Falls series.

5. One Last Stop by Casey Mcquiston
I couldn’t resist including a Casey Mcquiston book. One Last Stop is perfect if you’re after books like Delilah Green Doesn’t Care. This new adult book contains an adorable friendship group, a sapphic romance and mild spice.
It follows August. Sheâs a cynical 23 year old who is trying to survive in New York. But then she meets this gorgeous girl on the train.
Jane.
Jane is dazzling, mysterious and charismatic. But thereâs one problem. Sheâs literally displaced in time from the 1970s.
Love the friendship group in Delilah Green Doesn’t Care? Then you’ll love One last Stop. The friendship between the chaotic roommates is heartwarming. Casey Mcquiston writes incredible friendships.
The writing is also hilarious with great banter. Plus the food imagery is droolworthy. ( If you enjoyed One Last Stop then read this post for more books like One Last Stop)

6. She Gets The Girl by Rachel Lippincott and Alyson Derrick
She gets The Girl is a fantastic pick if you like Delilah Green doesn’t care. It balances humour, heartwarming romance and important topics such as alcholism. While it doesn’t feature spice, its set in a college and is more adult than a ya romance.
It follows Alex and Molly. Alex is a headstrong flirt. She knows how to get the the girl. Keeping her on the other hand… not so much.
Molly has everything in control. Except for her complete awkwardness with anyone other than her mum. She’s in love with the cool Cora Myers. But she just hasn’t talked to her yet.
Alex and Molly don’t belong on the same planet. But when they cross paths, they realize they might have a common interest after all.
Because maybe if Alex volunteers to help Molly learn how to get her dream girl to fall for her, she can prove to her ex that sheâs not a selfish flirt. That sheâs ready for an actual commitment.
The hate to love trope is executed brilliantly in this book. Both characters have excellent character development and come to understand each other better through the course of the book.
The discussions around alcoholism were well done and balanced with heartwarming romance.
If you want Sapphic rom com books, then I highly recommend reading She Gets The Girl.

7. Honey girl by Morgan Rogers
Honey Girl is a great pick if you’re after books like Delilah Green, specifically for adults. It features a diverse cast of queer characters, a cute sapphic romance and excellent depiction of burnout.
Honey Girl follows Grace. Sheâs just completed her PhD in astronomy. She goes on a girls trip to Las Vegas and she accidentally marries another woman.
But she doesnât even know her name. Something very uncharacteristic of Grace.
Meanwhile Grace is struggling under the weight of her ex-military fatherâs expectations. And she starts to wonder why she doesnât feel more fulfilled from completing her degree.
She leaves home and decides to spend the summer with the wife she barely knows.
This book is relatable for burnt out millennials.
Why? Because the main character suffers mental health issues and burnout after tirelessly working on her degree. Something many people can identify with.
It also features an adorable friends and the found family trope. The writing style is more adult and wonât suit everyone. But many will adore this Sapphic romance.

8. Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner
Another Meryl Wilsner book. I couldn’t help including several on this list. If you enjoy the Bright Falls trilogy then you’ll love Meryl Wilsner.
MILF fan? This is the book for you. This romcom follows a college senior who who accidentally hooks up with her best friendâs mom.
It follows Cassie Klein. She goes to an off-campus bar to escape her school’s Family Weekend. She isn’t looking for a hookup. But it happens.
Buying a drink for a stranger turns into a one-night-stand. But the next morning rolls around. And her friend drags her along to meet her mum.
The hot, older woman Cassie slept with.
What should have been a one-time fling quickly proves impossible to ignore, and soon Cassie and Erin are sneaking around. Worst of all, they start to realize they have something real. But is being honest about the love between them worth the cost?

Love & Other Disasters is an adorable romance featuring a non-binary love interest. Plus, it also features a masterchef style reality cooking show.
A dual pov following Dahlia Woodson and London Parker.
