When the Moon Hatched is an incredible urban fantasy with dragons. This high fantasy features an angsty romance, fae and an awesome main character.
We follow Raeve, a valued Elding Blade of a rebellion group. Her job is to kill, complete orders and never get caught. But, the crown employs a renowned bounty hunter to capture a member of the Ath. And Raeve’s world is turned upside down.

2. Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Don’t let the size put you off. This is an incredible high fantasy with dragons. It is more high fantasy than Fourth Wing, with a large info-dump. But this is an incredible fantasy.
A world divided. A queendom without an heir. An ancient enemy awakens.
The House of Berethnet has ruled Inys for a thousand years. Still unwed, Queen Sabran the Ninth must conceive a daughter to protect her realm from destruction ā but assassins are getting closer to her door.

3. The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkein
A classic adventure story with a dragon. This is a charming read with a well-paced plot. And it’s not as drawn out as Lord of the Rings. And you don’t need to read LOTR to understand this. You could read as a fantasy standalone.
The Hobbit follows Bilbo Baggins. He is A Hobbit who lives in The Shire. One day he meets Gandalf and goes on an adventure.

4. Eragon by Christopher Paolini
A YA adventure story with elves, dragons and magic. The writing is quick and easy to read. This doesn’t have any spice, as it’s young adult. But this is still an incredible read.
We follow Eragon. He discovers a dragon egg in the forest. And it unhatches to reveal a dragon. The first to unhatch in many years.
Please donāt let the terrible movie adaptation put you off! Itās an excellent YA Fantasy book ā the plot is gripping.

Shape-shifting dragons, a curse and beautiful worldbuilding. This is an exquisite fantasy with a young princess and plenty of adventure
We follow Shiori. She is the only princess in Kiata. Shiori lives in a land where magic is banned. And demons are locked away inside a mountain. But forbidden magic runs through her veins.
Shiori normally conceals it. But on the morning of her betrothal ceremony, she loses control. And she attracts the attention of her stepmother Raikama.

6. A Dawn of Onyx by Kate Golden
A Dawn of Onyx is a new adult romantasy with dragons and magic. Plus it has an enemies to lovers romance.
We follow Arwen Valondale. She never expected to be the brave one, offering her life to save her brotherās. Now sheās been taken prisoner by the most dangerous kingdom on the continent, and made to use her rare magical abilities to heal the soldiers of the vicious Onyx King.
This is an addictive, fast-paced read with warring kingdoms and fae. An excellent start to the series.

We follow Elowen Atarah, Princess of Imirath. She is a princess with a link to five dragons. It should have been a blessing but it became her curse. The little girl in shackles became a knife-wielding woman with a thirst for retaliation.
Now, Queen of Aestilian, a secret kingdom she forged through strength and survival, Elowen needs a way to feed her rising population.

Fire with Fire is a ya fantasy book with dragons. This is similar to Eragon, as it features a dragon bond. It also has a strong female main character and a sibling rivalry.
We follow Dani and Eden Riviera. They were both born to slay dragons. And they couldnāt be more different. Dani wants a normal life and letās training take a backseat. While training is always Edenās priority. But theyāve always agreed on one thing ā with dragons it’s either kill or be killed.

14. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
A Court of Thorns and Roses is an incredible enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance. The writing style and steamy romance are very similar. Perfect for fans of Xaden and Violet.
We follow Feyre. She is poor and lives with her father and two sisters. She has to hunt to care for the family. One day she sees a deer and canāt resist killing it to sell. But it was actually a faerie she murdered. And the owner comes to kidnap her to live at the castle as punishment.

Sarah J Maas has a very similar writing style to Rebecca Yarros. While A Court of Thorns and Roses is more romance focused. Throne of Glass has more action. But it still includes an awesome hate-to-love romance, trials and a strong main character.
We follow Celaena Sardothien, an assassin. She is imprisoned in a horrific prison called Endovier. And one day the prince summons her to fight in a competition. The winner will become the kingās assassin.

Serpent and Dove is a compelling enemies to lovers romance. It features magic, and an urban setting.
We follow Louise, a witch living in Cesarine where witches are hunted and burned. Reid, a witch hunter, has always lived by the same principle ā thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. But Lou pulls a stunt and forces them into an impossible scenario ā holy matrimony.
This is a compelling romance with easy to read writing. Perfect for fans of Fourth Wing.

In Blunder all magic comes at a price. We follow Elspeth. She touches a magical providence card and is possessed by the Nightmare. When Elspeth meets a mysterious highwayman on the forest road, her life takes a drastic turn. Thrust into a world of shadow and deception, she joins a dangerous quest to cure Blunder from the dark magic infecting it.

In this dystopian novel, blood defines your status. Reds are commoners. But silvers are the elite and have superpowers. The main character is red. But she has superpowers.
The Red Queen has received over a million reviews on GoodReads, and is still rated 4 stars. Fans love the fast-pace, plot twists and dystopian worldbuilding.

This features an angsty, ‘ will they, won’t they’ romance. Plus the writing style is unique. And different to any other book. Prose heavy, this is a book people either love or hate.

This doesn’t feature dragons. But it has mythical creatures similar to dragons. Perfect for Fourth Wing fans. It also features a cast of badass, strong women. Plus the fast-paced plot makes this an addictive read.
16-year-old Deka lives in a village where all the girls undergo a blood ceremony. If their blood runs gold ā they are impure.
Deka lived in fear of this ceremony. But then her blood runs gold. And she must face the consequences. But then a mysterious woman comes to her rescue. And offers her the chance to fight for the emperor in an army of girls like her.
This book is not for everyone ā it has a lot of violence. Please check the trigger warnings before reading

An amazing female main character, a college setting and a secret magical society. This is high stakes and the writing reminds me of Fourth Wing.
We follow Bree Mathews. After the death of her mother, she wants to avoid family memories. So, she joins a residential program for gifted high school students.
But then she witnesses a magical attack on her first night. A flying demon feeding on human energy. A Mage tries to wipe her memory. But he fails. And instead Bree unlocks new memories of her motherās death.

A strong female lead, magic and a corrupt government. This is perfect if you love q quest. It also combines a fast-paced plot with magical West Africa inspired world-building.
There used to be magic in OrĆÆsha. ZĆ©lie remembers how powerful her reaper mother was. But one-night magic disappears and Zelie is left without hope.
She now has to bring back the magic with the help of a runaway princess. OrĆÆsha is full of danger everywhere. But ZeĆ©ieās greatest danger is herself.

32. The Poppy Wars by R.F. Kuang
The Poppy Wars is perfect if you’re after books with Strong female leads. Rin the main character, endears a lot and is focused on her goal throughout. It also follows a military academy.
Rin aces the Keju ā a test to find the most talented youth to learn at Academies. And it was a huge shock when she gets into Sinegard ā an elite military school in Nikan.
But surprises arenāt always good.

33. And I darken by Kiersten White
And I Darken features a brutally strong female lead from the onset. Born into a cut-throat world, she is forced to be a fierce character from the start.
No one expects a princess to be brutal. And Lada Dragwyla likes it that way.
Ever since she and her brother were abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman sultanās courts, Lada has known that ruthlessness is the key to survival. For the lineage that makes her and her brother special also makes them targets.

Faebound deserves much more hype. This incredible fantasy is ideal for Fourth Wing fans. It features a strong female lead, magic and rivals to lovers romance
Yeeran is a warrior in the elven army and has known nothing but violence her whole life. Her sister, Lettle, is trying to make a living as a diviner, seeking prophecies of a better future.
When a fatal mistake leads to Yeeranās exile from the Elven lands, they are both forced into the terrifying wilderness beyond their borders. There they encounter the impossible: the fae court.

I was unsure whether to include Air Awakens as I wasn’t a huge fan. But many fans of Fourth Wing and A Court of Thorns and Roses love this book. It features hate to love romance, an amazing female main character and magic.
Vhalla is a library apprentice. She has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers ā a mysterious magic society. Sheās been happy in her quiet world of books. But she unknowingly saves the life of a powerful sorcerer and the crown prince.
Vhalla discovers a powerful elemental magic lurking within her. A magic that could shift the tides of war.
